At my practice, Jo Benson Fogel, P.A., I have represented clients facing divorce and other serious family law problems, for over 30 years.

With extensive experience in complex problems, including contested child custody litigation, disputes, property division involving family-owned businesses, and other contentious matters, I am capable of handling any family law problem.

I now use this experience and expertise to provide consulting services and guidance in litigation matters to attorneys and mental health professionals, as well as individuals.

An Experienced and Knowledgeable Attorney

I have represented clients in family law matters since 1972, as both a counselor and advocate. My background is in litigation; I began my legal career as a law clerk for one of Maryland's best trial judges. I have a record of success in custody and property division litigation and numerous published cases, and am Board Certified in Family Law Litigation by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

I also realize however, that litigation is not always the best way to resolve family law problems. With that in mind, I have received specialized training in alternative dispute resolution techniques and in the Family Systems Theory of Murray Bowen.

Utilizing the Full Spectrum of Legal Tools

Whether I am representing individuals directly, or advising lawyers or mental health professionals, I take a creative approach to the resolution of family law problems. Litigation should always be considered as an option, but negotiation and mediation can also produce good results.

In recent years, I have devoted an increasing portion of my practice to legal consulting activities for other attorneys, including mediation consulting, negotiation strategy consulting. I also provide advice and consulting services for mental health professionals for Mental Health Professionals page, to help them better serve their clients.

In every legal matter, I am results-oriented and dedicated to protecting my clients' rights and interests to the fullest extent possible.
